ALL ABOUT THE AUTHOR
  Letta Meinen

I am 79 years young and do not have a list of PhD's to my credit not even a college education.  I consider myself a self educated person willing to learn and have taken correspondence courses in Art and writing of Children's literature.  I am an avid reader which are mostly non-fiction, I like the real life and this way adds to my education.

My husband and I are originally from Nebraska and have lived in Iowa since the early 1950's.  For the past 20 years we have spent our winters in Salado, Texas.  We own a small townhouse on a golf course which is part of the rental pool of units for the golf course.  It is a wonderful place to get away from the frigid Iowa winters.

In January 2002 my husband was diagnosed with an aneurysm and was hospitalized for several months.  After hospital and re-hab stay we returned to Iowa in June.  In July he had a stroke and was hospitalized again.  He was still in therapy and was improving, but for this reason we thought it best to stay in Iowa last winter.  He  had great care in Texas at the Scott and White Hospital and were ever so gratful for the caring Doctors and Nurses.  After Christmas he was diagnosed with kidney failure and died March 12, 2003.

With my time occupied with my husband and staying close at home I was able to re-write the book I had written a few years ago.  The reason for the interest was that early this summer I received a e-mail from Rochelle Beach who has a web site called where she sells cinnamon objects over her web site.  She read a review I had written about my love of cinnamon on epinions.com in their Arts and Crafts section.  I wrote a little about the history of cinnamon and gave suggestions on what to do with this great spice.  She thought it would be great to have a book as it would be an interest of cinnamon lovers everywhere.  This book THE CINNAMON STICK - Tales of the Spice Trade is the results.  I finally found an on line publishing company who accepted the book and it is now on sale on their web site www.booklocker.com.

This is Hannah one of Rochelle's cinnamon dolls.  I had to have her as Hannah was my mothers name. Check out her web site at www.cinnaminnies.com.
I was fortunate to hear early this spring that a recipe I had entered in Suzanne Somers contest in 2001 had won Honorable Mention and is featured in her book.  If you turn to the recipe section you can read about this contest and the winning recipe.  I love to experiment with foods and try new recipes.

I have an avid interest in Art and have participated in Art Show for a number of years.  I did hand sculptured pottery items, weavings and photography.  I finally had to stop as it had become too stressful, with all the packing and working the display's.  That is the reason I took up writing, it was a lot easier on both myself and my husband.

As much as our world changes...much of it stays the same..    Letta :-)
